Causes Of Panic Attacks

Have you ever wondered just what it is that causes panic attacks? Nearly everyone in the world either has experienced a panic attack or knows someone who has. The causes can fall into one of two categories, the underlying reason someone has a panic attack and the triggers in that same individual.

Internal cause

The causes of panic attacks in the beginning are often a release of large amounts of hormones into the blood stream. This is a primitive biological response to imminent danger. When man lived in caves or treacherous surroundings, he needed to be ready at a moment’s notice to fight or flee and so this release of hormones such as adrenaline was necessary. Today however, we seldom find ourselves in these situations and a panic attack is this reaction in a safe setting. Other disorders have been linked to the causes of panic attacks:
The causes of panic attacks can be anyone or a combination of any of the disorders listed above. Your doctor will likely want to rule out most if not all of these illnesses or conditions before setting you up with a treatment plan.

Trigger

A trigger is not the underlying cause of anxiety disorder but are the thing that will set the panic attack off. Think of triggers as the catalyst for a panic attack more than a cause of the disorder.

Stress Levels

You will hear many ideas and opinions on the causes of panic attacks. Believe it or not, stress in your everyday life can be one of the common causes of panic attacks. If you turn on the nightly news, it seems there is something new to stress about every day. The economy, job losses, politics, home foreclosures and more are all things that create stress in your life. When you compound the bad news with dealing with children, pets, spouse and your job it is not so hard to see why many people are suffering from panic attacks.

Inherited

Studies have been done that indicate the genetics and inheritance have a role to play in the causes of panic attacks. When a child is raised in a home with a parent who suffers anxiety problems they are more likely to present with the same symptoms later in life. Some of the causes of panic attacks are genetic and some is environmental or just being “raised that way”.

Nice People

Are you the type of person who is nice to everyone? Do you repress your emotions and are generally thought of as passive? This emotional repression is thought to be linked to the causes of panic attacks. Imagine your emotions are being pressed down into a bottle, eventually there is no more room and the emotion must go somewhere, hence a panic attack.

Conclusion

What causes a panic attack in your situation may vary from someone else or even from the descriptions above. The important thing to remember is regardless of how or why you should seek medical attention immediately. It is important to rule out all other medical conditions and then begin treatment for your anxiety. When anxiety or panic attacks remain untreated, your condition can become worse leading to a fear of leaving your home or participating in social events.

Panic attacks have been described as the worse fear imaginable for no apparent reason, this makes many people wonder if they are going crazy and then avoid people because they fear it is true! With therapy and treatment, you can live a happy well-adjusted life no matter what the causes of panic attacks in your life are.
